Benin’s Roofing Market Undergoes Rapid Transformation as Lightweight PPGI Corrugated Sheets Gain Strong Momentum Across West Africa
Benin’s construction sector has been expanding steadily, driven by urban development and growing demand for durable roofing materials. Traditional iron sheets, widely used in rural and peri-urban areas, often fail to withstand the country’s harsh environment. High temperatures, intense UV radiation, humidity, and coastal salt exposure lead to fast corrosion, fading, and leakage issues. As a result, lightweight Pre-Painted Galvanized (PPGI) Corrugated Roofing Sheets have emerged as one of the most popular replacements.
PPGI sheets with 0.11–0.14 mm thickness and 800–900 mm width have become the preferred choice among builders and homeowners. Their low weight allows easy transportation and manual installation—an important advantage in regions where machinery is limited. The UV-resistant polyester coating also provides longer color retention and superior weather resistance under Benin’s intense sunlight.
The batch exported to Benin features improved coating adhesion and stable substrate quality, ensuring smooth corrugation and consistent panel shapes. Local installation teams reported excellent sheet flatness, strong resistance to scratches during cutting, and no signs of rusting even during extended rainy periods.
Distributors in Cotonou and surrounding cities noted a rapid increase in repeat purchases, especially from rural housing contractors. Thanks to its long service life, competitive cost, and ease of installation, PPGI roofing is expected to dominate Benin’s roofing market in 2025 and continue expanding across West Africa.
